6/15/2025 PM Whale Watching Dolphin Trifecta

On our recent whale watching trip, we enjoyed an incredible day on the water with sightings of three different dolphin species. Playful bottlenose dolphins and agile common dolphins gave us fantastic viewing opportunities, delighting everyone aboard. The true highlight of the trip, however, was the rare and exciting sighting of Risso’s dolphins. These distinctive, scar-marked dolphins are not commonly seen in the area, making their appearance a special and memorable moment. Their unique look and elusive nature made them the standout of an already remarkable outing.

It was a beautiful Fathers Day afternoon trip on the Pacific! Guests hit the trifecta of dolphins, seeing three different species! We first encountered a pod of about 40 to 50 offshore bottle nose dolphins. We then continued deep into the Pacific past the 9 mile bank and were lucky enough to see a beautiful pod of Risso’s dolphins! These unique dolphins aren’t always seen in San Diego waters so our guests were so lucky to see a pod of 25, even getting to check out some mating behavior! As we headed back we had a brief glimpse of 50 common dolphins to round out our triad of dolphin species sightings for the day. As always, you can book your trip here on our website or by calling us at 619-309-1680. We hope to see you soon!
