6/16/2025 Double Blue Whales
Our whale-watching trip on the Legacy was an unforgettable adventure! We were thrilled to see pods of common and bottlenose dolphins swimming and playing near the boat. The highlight of the day was spotting two massive blue whales, the largest animals on Earth. We watched in awe as they surfaced, spouted, and slowly dove back into the deep, giving us an incredible view of their immense size and grace. It was a truly breathtaking and exciting experience!
What an exceptional morning out in foggy conditions for 1 1/2 hours. Legacy headed out to 11 mile bank area. Along the way we encountered a small pod of Short-beaked Common Dolphins which took to bow riding and surfing the back of the vessel. In the mix include a few young calves. We continue the journey further west until we came upon a small juvenile
Humpback that surfaced several times and fluke too. A large adult Humpback came into the are that may have been the Mom checking in on “Junior”!! We continued west once more and came upon a very unique sighting of a Humpback that was surging just under a 1 foot deep in the water and was very close to the vessel. All the guests could see exactly where this Humpback was going since it was so close to surface. It circled the vessel several times to check us out, however, this particular Humpback had very pale whitish skin on its nostrum to its back with a possibility of having vitiligo (pigmentation of skin) and even the top of its fluke appeared to be completely white in which you could clearly see from the vessel. It sure made it extremely easier for everyone to see where it was going. The idea that the Humpback could have possible skin pigmentation was a much discussed topic with guests onboard. What an incredible group of guests on board today I so enjoyed our conversation immensely!!
