6/27/25 PM whale trip young gray whales and plenty of common dolphins
On our latest trip aboard the Legacy, we had the special treat of seeing two young gray whales heading north—a bit later than the typical migration timeline, making their appearance all the more exciting. They stayed near the surface long enough for everyone to enjoy some great views.
Later in the trip, we encountered a large pod of common dolphins, who dazzled us with their playful leaps and energetic surfing alongside the boat. Their enthusiasm and numbers brought extra excitement to an already memorable day on the water.
The wonderful but strange whale watching outing on the afternoon of June 27. We were alerted to two juvenile GRAY whales, heading northbound about 3 miles offshore. This is unusual because they are typically already up in the Arctic feeding by the end of June. Good luck to these two gray whales!
We also came across two pods of common dolphins. One pod had about 150 individuals and the other pod had about 25 individuals. They were jumping, leaping, bow riding, and overall- highly exuberant. The weather was sunny in the seas were calm. It was a glorious day on the water in San Diego.
June 27, 2025 PM cruise
We had a beautiful clear day on the water and saw over 100 common bottlenose dolphins feeding and stampeding across the ocean. We saw two humpbacks with the Los Coronados Islands as a back drop. At one point the two whales surfaced next to our boat providing us with the great sounds of their exhales. One of the whales displayed peduncle slaps on the water – he lifted his entire tail up out of the water.
