7.8.2025 AM and PM Whale Watch
On a memorable whale watching trip aboard the Legacy, we witnessed an extraordinary natural spectacle as humpback whales and common dolphins cooperated in feeding on the same bait ball of anchovies. The boat cruised through the serene waters, where we first noticed the surface breaking with splashes—at first, the dolphins. Their graceful, synchronized movements were mesmerizing as they darted in and out of the bait ball, herding the fish into tighter clusters.
Soon, the powerful presence of the humpback whales added to the spectacle. With their massive tails and stunning breaches, the whales seemed to time their lunges with the dolphins’ movements, working in unison to corral the anchovies. It was a rare and awe-inspiring sight to see two different species, each with their own methods of hunting, converging in this cooperative feeding frenzy. The whole scene was a breathtaking display of nature’s coordination and harmony, with the surrounding waters alive with energy. The Legacy crew provided insightful commentary, deepening our appreciation of the complex behavior we were fortunate enough to witness.

Tuesday July 8 am cruise was magical! Under the thin cloud coverage, right at the jetty, we were greeted by 2 bottlenose dolphins. We then moved out into the rolling seas and came upon a bird feeding frenzy. There were gulls, pelicans, and elegant terns. Splashing, jumping and feeding along side the birds was a healthy pod of common dolphins (about 150) and a nice robust humpback whale. The sun also decided to make a showing. We stayed with this crowd for quite a while and everyone enjoyed seeing the tail fluking numerous times and the dolphins leaping and swimming through the water. It’s always a great time on the ocean and today was proof of that!
