06.13.2025 AM Whale Watch

During our exciting 3-hour whale watching adventure, we were treated to incredible sightings of both bottlenose and common dolphins, gracefully swimming alongside the boat and putting on a show with their playful behavior. The highlight of the trip was a shy yet curious minke whale, which repeatedly surfaced near the vessel, almost as if it were testing our presence—at times even seeming to “bombard” the boat with close passes. It was a memorable experience filled with wonder and close encounters with some of the ocean’s most amazing creatures.

Friday June 13 AM Trip: No Friday the 13th Bad Luck on this trip as we saw three different cetacean species! We encountered a small active pod of offshore bottlenose dolphin on the way out, including one acrobatic individual. We then encountered various small pods of common dolphin and a larger superpod aggregation that in total across all groups numbered about 1000. Finally we spotted an elusive minke whale that kept surfacing right next to the boat, but repeatedly switching sides so we only got a glimpse. Minkes are a somewhat rare and definitely exciting encounter! We saw two more minkes cruising together as we headed back in to Mission Bay but time constraints kept us from investigating further. Hopefully the afternoon trip will track them down.
